Still Here: A Memoir of Cancer, Grief, and the Audacity of Surviving

by Urvashi Prasad

Category: Memoir/Autobiography, Non-Fiction
Price: Rs 599

One ordinary day, life is moving forward. The next, everything changes. At thirty-five, Urvashi Prasad had every reason to believe life was unfolding exactly as planned. A respected public health professional, a dancer, and a woman deeply devoted to her family, she had already endured the devastating loss of her father when another unimaginable blow arrived: a diagnosis of stage IV lung cancer, despite having never smoked.

In Still Here, Prasad explores what illness feels like from the inside: the fear before every scan, the relationships that deepen and those that fall away, the unbearable weight of grief, and the quiet resilience required simply to wake up and begin again. She takes readers behind the closed doors of hospitals and into the private world of cancer that few people speak about honestly. She challenges comforting myths, questions miracle cures, explores the hidden costs of treatment, and writes with rare candour about depression, survival, intimacy, and the emotional labour of staying alive.

Yet, this is not a story of miraculous recovery or easy inspiration. It is a memoir that refuses false optimism while insisting on the value of life, even in its most fragile moments. It is an examination of what illness reveals about families, friendships, medicine, and ourselves. It is also a powerful reminder that serious illness can happen to anyone, and that empathy matters long before tragedy strikes.
