Aleph Book Company is an award-winning publishing firm based in New Delhi. Since its founding in May 2011 by David Davidar in partnership with R. K. Mehra and Kapish Mehra of Rupa Publications India, it has twice won the prestigious Publisher of the Year award (awarded by Publishing Next). Its authors have won or been shortlisted for a slew of international and Indian literary prizes, including the Nobel, Booker, Jnanpith, Sahitya Akademi, Windham-Campbell, Tata, Commonwealth, Hindu, Publishing Next, Kalinga, Crossword, W. H. Smith, Shakti Bhatt, Atta-Galatta, and Oxford, to name a few.
Aleph publishes books of enduring literary quality by Indian writers or writers of Indian origin. On occasion, outstanding books by international writers are also published. It puts out about sixty titles annually in the following categories— fiction, history, biography, autobiography, politics, current events, reportage, travel, popular science, art, music, nature studies, the environment, business, translations, philosophy, sociology, psychology, and popular culture—as well as works of narrative non-fiction that are not easily categorized. Every book the company publishes reflects its emphasis on excellence in editorial quality, design, printing, and packaging.
